Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of Frankenstein is set to be one of Netflix’s standout film releases in 2025. Scheduled for a November debut following a premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), this gothic reimagining of Mary Shelley’s 1818 horror classic promises a visually breathtaking and emotionally resonant experience.
Renowned for his unique fusion of dark fantasy and horror, often brought to life with practical effects rather than CGI—as seen in Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, and The Shape of Water—del Toro has called Frankenstein a “Miltonian tragedy.” He’s described it as a project he’s dreamed of making for five decades.
